about genecom : overview

Genecom was established in 2004, to provide capacity for the Moredun Research Institute and the Institute for Animal Health to better translate the science they do to products for end users, be they the animal health or clinical sectors or farmers.

Genecom is a not for profit company established purely to effect the translation of basic and applied research to usable benefits for animal health and welfare and biomedicine within the fields of interest of the partner institutes.

Part of Genecom's function is to promote with the partner institutes, scientific expertise, know-how and knowledge and new science and inventions arising from the research base that may be available for uptake by industry perhaps through license or research collaborations.

Our other function is to provide the scientific base with information on grants and funds available to support the research. As such, we may be able to assist you in developing a collaboration with Moredun or the IAH for example, by pointing you towards public funding that you may otherwise have been unaware of including for example,
BBSRC innovation funding and the small business research initiative to name but two.

Genecom’s objective is to:

  • propagate a culture of knowledge transfer within the three Institutes

  • identify existing but as yet unrecognised commercial opportunity

  • encourage collaboration and convert research expertise into practical application.

  • Genecom can assist you develop relationships with our associates through business planning and in some cases accessing seedcorn funding available to the partners including our own Concept Definition Fund, the Rainbow Seedcorn Fund and the Genomia Fund

The Genecom team is: Patrick McCarthy, Mark Cracknell, Richard Mole, Susan McKee and Laura Kinnear
