Chief Executive Officer

Dr Patrick McCarthy is Chief Executive Officer of Genecom Ltd and was recruited by the Roslin Institute in 2004 to develop the Institute's capacity to exploit their science and technology potential alongside that of Moredun and the Institute for Animal Health. Patrick is actually a biochemist by training and received his PhD from the University of London before doing post-doctoral training and thereafter toxicology at the Toxicology Unit of Guys and St. Thomas' Hospitals. Patrick has been interested in knowledge transfer and commercialisation since coming to Scotland to join the University of Edinburgh's team, ERI in 1998.

Richard Mole, BSc, PhD, MBA Business Development Manager

Business Development Manager

Dr Richard Mole is now responsible for the development of vaccines through the Inocul8 initiative at Moredun. Richard joined Genecom in 2007 following a period studying for an MBA which included time working with a regional Venture Capital Fund in the East Midlands. Previously, Richard worked for Biotec Laboratories, a company formed from the merger of a University of Nottingham spin out, involved in the development of novel medical diagnostic tests.

Susan McKee Business Development Manager

Susan McKee
Business Development Manager

Susan McKee has responsibility for account management at Moredun Research Institute for the translation of scientific opportunity that falls outside of the Innocul8 initiative and provides support at IAH where needed. Susan has several years experience as a Contracts Manager within the pharmaceutical industry. Susan joined Genecom in December 2007 from the Scottish National Blood Transfusion Service in Edinburgh and worked previously as a Research Scientist at PPL Therapeutics involved in the characterisation of therapeutic proteins and peptides.

Richard Gregson Business Development Executive - SCRI

Business Development Executive - SCRI

Richard joined Genecom from the company Renishaw where he had worked as a patent searcher since 2006. Richard has a wealth of knowledge around intellectual property management having, prior to his work with Renishaw worked for the UK Patent Office.

Richard will work alongside Jonathan Snape at Mylnefield Research Services in developing analytical services at SCRI and in developing new innovation through the Concept Fund.

Orphans Project Manager

James is responsible for the day-to-day management of the Orphans Project, an initiative designed to encourage new enterprise and entrepreneurship for Scottish benefit by developing links between the Genecom partners and SME's and entrepreneurs.

The Orphans project provides grants for proof of concept studies, access to the skill set within Moredun and the Institute for Animal Health and for specialist help, lab and technical resources available through both and the Roslin Foundation

Emma Fadlon Research and Business Development Manager - IAH Pirbright

Research and Business Development Manager - IAH Pirbright

Emma is an experienced business development professional who until she agreed to join Genecom worked for Conduit Partners Ltd providing business support to universities, PSRE's, Regional Development Agencies, Private Equity Finance and SME's. Emma's work has spanned the life science, healthcare, environment/clean technology, forensic and homeland security sectors.

Emma was a Technology Entrepreneur on the Scottish Enterprise Proof of Concept Programme, an Intellectual Property Manager for NHS Innovations, East Midlands and a Project and IP Manager for Gendel Ltd which she joined a Group Leader with responsibility for developing a novel drug delivery system and the use of ultrasound in cell ablation.

Emma has a PhD in Tumour Immunology (Institute for Cancer Studies, Sheffield), a BSc in Microbiology (Sheffield) and she previously held three post-doctoral research fellowships in immunology at IRF Mario Negri, Milan, the Rayne Institute, St. Thomas' Hospital, London and Imperial College

Emma 'rows' and her interests are literature and the arts.
